SQM Replication Project Update 26-08-05.

In the last week I have learnt a lot about the magnetising of magnets and how the magnets hold their fields. Some magnetise much easier than others and when some magnetise they don't always magnetise evenly.

The above magnet has a nice and a fairly even field in it.

This is the same magnet but up on end. I have used a IBM P96 19 inch monitor to see the field lines better. The Magna View is good but not as good as this is. To get rid of the residue of the magnet just degauss the monitor and is is right again. Here you can see another magnet that has not got even lines. One side of the magnet has a stronger field than the other.

The field lines are closer on one side compared to the other. This is quite a bit different than the other magnet.

Here are some extra pics of the Capacitor banks and the Magnetising fixture

The bottom bank is 10,000uf and the top bank is 5290uf both rated at 1200 volts. Most magnets of this size would need about 60,000uf or more at 1000 volts or more.

The magnetising fixture has a resistance rating of 1.1 Ohms. The wire gauge is 1.5mm.

More coming soon everyone...
